Scintilla was created by designer Linda Björg Árnadóttir to bring her work with fabrics from fashion over into home textiles.
Timeline
1995 —
Graduates from the Iceland Arts Academy in Textile Design.
Wins the International Smirnoff Fashion Awards. The jury is composed of Alexander McQueen, John Rocha, and Joe Casely-Hayford amongst others.
Her collection features breakthrough dresses made of transparent leather.
1996 —
Linda designs a collection of dresses as part of the icelandic collective GusGus and style their promotional pictures and videos.
1997 —
Graduates in Fashion Design from Studio Bercot, Paris.
Her final collection is featured in Purple Magazine, in an editorial shot by Anders Edström.
Linda is appointed as designer for fabrics & special pieces at Martine Sitbon.
The collaboration will last 15 seasons until the Martine Sitbon name folds in 2004 and continues with Sitbon’s new brand Rue du Mail.
1998 —
SVO is launched. Linda’s own collection of minimal and functional clothing. The brand is a success in Europe, Japan, and the US in such stores as Barney’s New York and Louis Boston.
Opening of Kron in Reykjavik. A shoe store featuring designs by Martine Sitbon and Patrick Cox.
1999 —
SVO runway show in Japan.
2000 —
Linda is appointed Head of the Fashion Department at the Iceland Arts Academy. A position she still occupies today. Linda has invited many designers and academics to come to the school to teach or sit in the jury: Louise Wilson from Central St. Martins, Gabrielle Greiss from Sonia Rykiel, Thomas Engelhart, Jonathan Saunders, Robert Cary-Williams, Cedric Rivrain, Martin Sitbon, and Geraldo Conceicao from Miu Miu to name a few.
Linda takes part in the exhibition Young Scandinavian Designers in London, New York, Berlin, Reykjavik and Helsinki.
2001 —
Designs costumes for Sígur Rós in their video for the song Viðrar vel til loftárasa. She will repeat the experience later with costumes in the video for Hóppipolla in 2006.
2003 —
Designs two dresses for Björk for her Vespertine tour.
2005 —
Designs fabrics and prints for Anna Molinari.
2006 —
Martine Sitbon starts her new brand called Rue du Mail.
Linda continues her work with her as textile designer.
2009 —
Launch of Scintilla. A collection of home textiles.
